Running a company from one workspace

Principia is an open-source Mac app where your coding agents work as one team. They share the same tools, memory and workflows, hand work to each other, and bring you only what needs a decision.

IIThe problem

Founders who already use Claude Code or Codex end up doing the same chores again and again. They paste the same context into every session, connect the same services in every tool, and check on long runs by hand. Each agent is capable alone, and none of them knows what the others did.

A company needs the opposite: work that moves from one agent to the next without being re-explained, and a person who sets the direction and approves what matters instead of babysitting terminals.

Use the agents people already have

Principia does not ship its own model. It runs the coding CLIs installed on your Mac, signed in with your own accounts, and never asks for those passwords. Handing work from Claude to Codex carries the conversation and recent output with it, and when one agent hits a usage limit a workflow can try another installed one.

Principia owns the orchestration

Tasks, handoffs and schedules live in Principia, not inside any one CLI's session. That is what lets work survive a closed terminal, a different agent, or a run on the cloud worker.

Connect once

A service is connected once, under Settings, and every agent can use it. Credentials are encrypted on the Mac, and a connection can be limited to the project folders it belongs to.

Local first

The app and its data live on your Mac. The cloud runner is optional, self-hosted, and meant for one trusted operator.

IVWhat works today

Builds are signed and notarized by Apple and update themselves. The code is MIT-licensed.

VA bug worth telling

While preparing 0.4.0 we found that Principia could refuse to quit. Cmd-Q did nothing, and neither did a polite signal from the terminal.

The cause was a quit that arrived while the app was still starting. The shutdown code marked the app as shutting down, then tried to close windows that did not exist yet, and threw. From then on every later quit saw "already shutting down" and returned. It was one exception, and it left the app impossible to quit.

0.4.0 fixes it in three layers. Each shutdown step has a time limit, and the final quit runs whatever happened before it. A quit during startup waits for startup to finish, with a watchdog in case it never does. A hard exit is the last resort. A code review then caught one more thing: the startup watchdog outlived startup and could later close the app over a "Cancel" the user had just pressed. That fix shipped in the same release.

VINot yet

The ambition is a workspace that runs one company or a thousand. Today's release is the foundation: agents, shared connections, workflows, schedules and project memory. Running many companies from one place, and autonomous operation at that scale, are still roadmap work. So is Passport: portable company memory that can be imported into a workspace or shared with other services.

The app targets Apple Silicon Macs. It is an early release, and issues and pull requests are welcome.
